Our Mission

Putting some "TLC" into our local waters and wetlands. Our mission is:

  1. To aid in the protection, preservation, and restoration of the natural environment of the inner coastal waters.

  2. To expand awareness of environmental issues and responsibility encompassing the inner coastal waters, wetlands and marsh.

  3. To create a desire and opportunity for the community to take an active role in helping to make a cleaner environment and improve the quality of water.

  4. To restore and help increase wildlife resources both recreational and commercial oyster harvesting, shrimp, fish and crabbing.

Area of Operations

Tidewater & Lowcountry Conservancy's area of operations centers on the coastal watersheds of Jasper and Beaufort Counties in South Carolina, spanning from Hardeeville and Ridgeland along I-95 southward to Bluffton, Beaufort, and Hilton Head Island. This includes the meandering New River from its headwaters near Ridgeland to Port Royal Sound, the Wright River flowing through tidal marshes to the Atlantic, and the May River winding from Bluffton to Calibogue Sound.

Our focus encompasses remote tributaries, oyster beds, and wildlife refuges like the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, protecting over 220 miles of vulnerable banklines from debris and pollution for sustainable restoration.

Our Strategies

Tidewater & Lowcountry Conservancy operates through a three-strategy approach to ensure comprehensive debris removal and environmental restoration across Lowcountry waterways.

  • The first strategy involves the well trained, full-time and part-time professionals conducting daily collections in remote, high-risk areas like overgrown marshes and tidal creeks, using specialized equipment for efficient cleanup.

  • The second emphasizes devoted volunteers, organizing weekly and bi-weekly volunteer events in low-risk, accessible zones such as public landings and beaches, fostering community involvement with safety training and free supplies.

  • The third features community service, delivering on-request specialty cleanups for partners like estates or corporations, tailored to unique needs while advancing preservation goals for sustainable tidal ecosystems and more!
